Restored
[edit]- I have restored this page, as it is needed as a disambig between the diving use and the spacesuit use. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 04:50, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Disambiguation page linking to any applications of undersuits
[edit]I recommend this be made a disambiguation page for all instances of undersuit, with links to Dry suit, Diving suit, Space suit and whatever else may need one. Undersuit implies the existance of an oversuit for it to be used under, and is not a useful subject for a stand-alone article as the details depend very much on the type of oversuit. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 15:34, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
- In the absence of any objections by the end of March, I will make this a disambiguation page as detailed above. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 18:48, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
- The only thing I'd suggest is to consider whether there is a primary topic for the word "undersuit":
- If there is a primary topic, and there are more than two articles that need disambiguation, then the page Undersuit should be the article about the primary topic, and Undersuit (disambiguation) should be the dab page, then a hatnote should be placed on Undersuit pointing to the dab page;
- If there is a primary topic, and there are only two articles that need disambiguation, then the page Undersuit should be the article about the primary topic, and a hatnote on the page should point to the other article;
- If there is no primary topic, then the page Undersuit should be the dab page;
- One way of looking for a primary topic is to Google search for terms like "Undersuit +dry", "Undersuit +wet", "Undersuit +dive", "Undersuit +diving", "Undersuit +space", etc. I have to say that I don't get many hits for any of those terms, which doesn't indicate to me that we need multiple articles. Am I right to think you're actually proposing merging each type of undersuit into the article for the corresponding oversuit? --RexxS (talk) 00:28, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
- I actually could not find undersuit mentioned in connection with real space suits. The articles mention items worn under the space suit, but do not apparently use the term undersuit for any of them. Based on this I will merge into Dry suit for which there are lots of references, and redirect to dry suit. If anyone finds a reliable source referring to the use of undersuits with real spacesuits (not imaginary, hypothetical or costume "space suits", or references in fiction) or other over-suits, then the page can be expanded to a disambiguation page in the usual way. Based on the large number of Google hits for dry suit undersuits, and the apparent absence of hits for any other kind, I would say the dry suit undersuit would be the primary topic and as we can see, there is not enough to say about them at this stage to justify a full article, so going with the merge. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 09:01, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

- If there are any sources connecting undersuits with real space suits, then Gene will probably know – I could be wrong but I seem to remember him discussing how studies on diving and space flight were interrelated, but there was more grant funding available for space research, so I'm fairly sure he keeps track of them. Your scheme for merge & redirect allowing a dab page later, if needed, certainly seems the right route to me. Cheers --RexxS (talk) 19:20, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
