- A Comcast cable modem subscriber in Philadelphia at 69.253.245.254 removed the photos again on June 11, 2007. Former members of the pep band are just so... sad... Please restore the images to this article if you notice them missing in the future. Uris 16:39, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- Glad to see no one is jumping to conclusions about the identity of vandals. The Pep Band's page has been vandalized well more than twice, clearly it's a ruse to make themselves look popular. Also, since it appears that the Pep Band is alive and well the designation former is incorrect. But hey, what do I know? I only saw them in person yesterday. 71.206.188.25 00:33, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- The pep band is all but dead. I haven't seen them in years, unfortunately. If you saw them, it may be because you saw a group of individuals just calling themselves "the pep band", in jest, even though such an organization died out long, long ago. They're probably being funny and trying to fool you into attesting to their continued existence here on Wikipedia. Don't fall for it. The last surviving member died of Alzheimer's like 7 years ago I believe. (Just kidding.) Omnibus (talk) 20:00, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Significance
[edit]I see no way that this article has any significance. Bassgoonist 18:56, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Marching band for a Division I-A football program. Clearly notable. -- Upholder 19:13, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- I fail to see how a band for football program is notable. There's one mediocre source that was made by the group it self. I see no significance. Bassgoonist 19:22, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- You're new here. Rookie mistake. Uris 18:32, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- I don't see how you can say that this page is insignificant solely on the premise that a band for a football program is not notable. Would you say that the marching band for Ohio State University's football program is not notable? Would you also say that the band for University of Southern California's football program is not notable? Band's related to football programs are certainly notable as they are an intergral part of the overall experience of the football game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Motabaspidermonkey (talk • contribs) 17:29, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Ref cleanup and first performance
[edit]All old Cavalier Daily links are broken after the paper's fall 2008 website relaunch. I've fixed the one in this article. I also removed an uncited claim that songs like the "Virginia Yell Song" hadn't been performed at Virginia athletic events in a century. The part books may have dated from 1907, but the University of Virginia Band was playing the music circa 1940-1950 according to the liner notes of their 1951 recording with the Virginia Glee Club, Songs of the University of Virginia. -Tjarrett (talk) 14:22, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Largest without a marching band?
[edit]I don't see that in this reference either. WhyDoIKeepForgetting (talk) 04:39, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- You're right it doesn't as "Wise" said in edit... I didn't pay for the subscription and mistook it for the Roanoke Times article I was looking for. I'll try to post that one soon if it still exists online. Omnibus (talk) 05:36, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Great! Also, "holdout" is very specific language, indicating that there was some group movement, or conference-wide pressure, and that some other ACC schools didn't have true marching bands in the same rough time period. Is there a cite for that? If not, the language as before is the better choice, I think. WhyDoIKeepForgetting (talk) 06:39, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think it indicates any "pressure" from the conference, but I changed "holdout" to "program" to prevent confusion.. Omnibus (talk) 19:53, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
