User talk:ErikNY/Archive1
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- If you haven't already, please add your name to the new user log to let others know a little about yourself.
- Read the article describing how to edit a page and feel free to experiment in the Sandbox.
- When editing pages, use the preview button before submitting and try to fill in the summary box for every edit.
- Eventually, read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
Jrdioko
P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
E. D. Hill copyright
[edit]Hi there—I noticed that you'd taken out the biography and photo that I'd posted for E. D. Hill. I'm an employee of Mrs. Hill, and the bio and photo posted are the same bio and photo that FNC send out for publicity. That's why I used the "publicity" copyright tag. Is this still a problem?

Bob Grant copyright
[edit]Hi,
I saw you pup a "copyvo" on the Bob Grant page. Why do you believe that the original page is copyrighted?
And also I changed, erased and added to the original article. I believe it is quite enough to make it different enough to avoid CR conflicts. Please try to look into it.
Thanks,

Hi Eric. I fell for your redirect and re-redirected it, thinking your page had some content. Well, thanks to Eric I created a stub now for Franziska_Van_Almsick. Copyright patrol
[edit]Hi Erik, thanks for the work on copyright violations patrol. I removed a couple of your copyvio tags (eg. Sts. Cosmas and Damian) and wanted to explain; The online Catholic Encyclopedia is copyrighted 1908, and is therefore PD. But the website claims a new copyright, 2003(not sure why). If people use material from the 1908 text in Wikipedia we consider it OK and use the '''{{catholic}}''' tag. --Duk 17:27, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit]I see what you mean regarding our "Broadcast Bandit." You think someone with an interest in the subject could do better. Detroit AM template
[edit]Hi there...just curious what your source was for Template:Detroit AM. CHYR isn't an AM station anymore -- I wouldn't ordinarily worry about it, but in this case the station moved to FM in 1993. I'm actually curious to know what sources list an AM station that's been defunct for over a decade as still active. Bearcat 04:09, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, okay. Good catch on CIDR, though. Windsor's also getting a rebroadcaster of Toronto's CJBC-FM (Espace Musique) this year (not sure of the exact date, but the license is a couple of years old), so I added that to the FM template as well. Oh, and the Michiguide media site doesn't have a coverage map for CHYR's FM transmitter, so I can't tell if the signal gets to Detroit or not (and hence whether it should be added to the FM template or not). But I may be going to visit a friend in Ann Arbor in the fall, so I'll have him tune his car radio to 96.3 to check (*grin*) Bearcat 04:22, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, I think I will add CHYR to the Detroit FM template. A Google search for "CHYR Detroit" brings up 200+ hits (and not just historical references to the old AM signal, either), so I'd take that as evidence that it's known in the market. Bearcat 04:27, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

ErikNY said: Usually, it takes some time before a temporary article is transferred to the main article. That's simply the Wikipedia policy, and that's all that can happen right now.

moving articles
[edit]Be careful about moving articles by doing copy and paste moves; you lose the entire history. I'll try and make a request for a modertator to fix everything so that the article is at Black Entertainment Television where it belongs (not wit hthe "BET" affixed to the end), but with the entire article history there as well. --FuriousFreddy 02:03, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
- I've fixed it all, I think. Let me know if there's edit histories still missing anywhere. Freddy was right though, only restore pages using the move button, if that doesn't work, please contact an admin instead of pasting in the original content. - Mgm|(talk) 08:00, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

Blanking
[edit]Just to let you know that removing the content from a page does not delete it, it just leaves a blank page. The correct thing to do is to place the {{delete}} tag on the page and an admin will come along and delete it from the system. -- Francs2000 22:30, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
Tagging articles for speedy deletion
[edit]To help us admins in saving us time, whenever you tag articles for speedy deletion because they are copyvio, please remember to also specify the web link URL from where it came from. Because we need to enter it into the deletion logs. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 21:55, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
- And please also blank the infringing content from the page (for copyvios only). Sometimes articles hang around in CAT:CSD for a while before an administrator sees and deletes them; Lindsay Kemp lasted six and a half hours. —Cryptic (talk) 20:03, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

Bears and Bears-Packers
[edit]At some point earlier today, I realized that much of the Bears-Packers article that someone had split out from the Bears article was apparently lifted from an NFL.com article which I had once linked to (or at least I think I did, not sure) in the original Bears writeup. The tipoff was when someone deleted the reference to the NFL.com article, apparently to hide their tracks. As I looked at it a bit, I realized that someone had ripped off a significant portion of it to build the Bears-Packers section. Although I added my own stuff to the Bears-Packers article before I realized that fact, which might muddy the waters, I recommend that someone with proper authority delete the Bears-Packers rivalry article altogether. External Links
[edit]Hi, I am a persistent SOB aren't I?! I just like things to look all the same, don't mean to go against the rules, but since I am a new member here I hope I won't be kicked out? I have stopped changing the word 'links' after being notified by another user- any idea how to change back the ones I have already changed without having to go through each article one by one? As for one link being called 'external link', what if someone adds another one, does it really matter if its 'links' and not 'link'?? That is getting just a little too picky IMO. Oh well, live and learn I guess.HeMan5 04:18, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- If there is an easy way to edit them, something like 'find and replace' in MS Word, then go ahead but otherwise you don't have to change them all back yourself. I can do them a little bit at a time. One more thing since you seem to be familiar with Wikipedia (don't mean to keep bothering you), do you know how to edit the title of an article? There are a couple that are wrong but I don't know how to edit them- Wisdom Television should be changed to 'Lime' for one. HeMan5 04:38, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

- Not to but in to any discussion you may be having with user CFIF, but he and I have gone back and forth a few times on Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Television_Stations on this topic. Might I recommend that page as a venue for further disucssion. CFIF isn't the first person to take up the mission of renaming all TV station pages to -TV, and I don't think he will be the last, unless we get this hammered out on both the Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Broadcasting Naming conventions page and the page of what seems to be the main Wikiproject for TV stations. Image copyright problem with Image:Moolah.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Moolah.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 20:47, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Z100
[edit]I apologize for having inserted the Z100 countdowns. Since I'm very passionate about the station and have collected them (and many playlists as well) over the years, I thought that it would have been a nice addition for those interested to trace the path of Z100's most popular music (and its ever-changing styles of music played) in the greater NYC area from its inception until present. I agree; after editing I thought that, at the very least, the visual aesthetic was a little irritating, but thought that if there was a lot of disagreement others could revise the page if so desired.
Incidentally, (and yeah, you probably figured this out :)) I'm brand new to the Wikipedia website and, apparently, am still a little ignorant to some of its policies. I did post a link to a website (of a colleague's, not my own website, and non station-affiliated) that contains both the yearly countdowns as well as about 10 years worth of playlists. If this violates any of Wikipedia's rules, or is unwarranted, please feel free to remove the link. I also saw that you had re-edition my revision that had stated the countdown started on Christmas Eve (replacing with Christmas day). I'm almost positive that it does, in fact, begin on Christmas Eve at noon; if not always, then I am 100% sure that at noon, on Christmas Eve 2005, I began to tape this year's countdown, it having finished while I was en route to a Christmas Eve party. However, I'm not at all bothered should you remain adamant of your own certainty. Please edit the content as you see fit.
I'd really like to do my part on Wikipedia, and while I'm new, I'm sure I will have some bumps along the way. Thanks for all of your help - I really appreciate it! --Extremejtp 10:05, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, thanks for that info. I actually came across those socks in response to WP:DRV#Boring Business Systems, so I'd be interested to know which AfDs you were referring to. I found Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jim Gardner, and the one on whichever 'TV station' it was. An anon (not you logged out?) provided some more suspected socks and, on investigation, I decided they were the same person and so I've indef blocked those, too. Some of them were a year old, but I figure there's no point letting them lie. (If you reply, could you do so on my talk, please, so that the anon can check in too. Thanks.) -Splash - tk 02:32, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
