[edit]I'm pretty sure that Dr Lamport would like his scientific achievements cited before his work on a package of text processing macros! David.Monniaux 21:13, 23 Apr 2004 (UTC)
This page reads a bit too much like a personal webpage. It needs re-writing so that it reads more like an entry written by someone else about the subject. Dalziel 86 09:53, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
A bit better now? 195.176.176.226 08:12, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
I am not sure why the article is not formal enough. It looks formal to me. Dalziel 86, can you be more specific? 24.224.160.130 19:01, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
This page should also include this paper of Dr. Lamport: How to Make a Multiprocessor Computer That Correctly Executes Multiprocess Programs (IEEE Transactions on Computers C-28, 9 (September 1979) 690-691.), which presented the fundamental idea of "Sequential Consistency". It's the basis for all the work related to Memory Model of multiprocessors.
Is there a source to substantiate that this applies here? —xyzzyn 20:56, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Claim to Fame
[edit]The first paragraph states that he is best known for developing LaTeX, and there is a citation that basically confirms that he is the original developer of LaTeX. However, is that really what he is "best" known for? I first heard about him due to his work in distributed systems, and the rest of the article supports the claim that he is well known in that field. I changed the article to reflect that. Urlass 17:30, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
The article now only mentions LateX once, which seems fairly ridiculous. How many people use LaTeX? Uh..most people that write papers of any kind? (Except for the other TeX document versions, extensions of LaTeX) Millions? How many people are in distributed systems? My wild guess is that 10,000 people would have heard of him from LaTeX for every one that's heard of him through distributed systems. I wonder how you "changed the article" to reflect where you first heard about him. 110.20.157.59 (talk) 02:52, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
