I merged And I into this article as the song isn't notable. There are a number of criteria at Wikipedia:WikiProject Music/Notability and Music Guidelines/Songs that songs should meet to be given their own articles, and "And I" does not meet any of these, or at least nowhere near enough. Extraordinary Machine 17:55, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
- The musically guidelines are guidelines not official policy. A google test for Ciara "and I" gets hundreds of thousands of results. This is one four well writen single pages. I am reverting as number 27 in the R&B charts is reasonably notable. By merging you are destroying context which is provided by the four pages. I have been contributing to music related articles for a while now, I wouldn't of reverted the merge if it wasn't notable. QQ 19:36, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
- To quote user:FuriousFreddy: if a song article is nothing but a recounting of how the song was made, and how well it did, without explaining that it was, in some way, important and influential to the music industry, there's really no reason for it. Just write good album articles, and selected articles on the important singles and album tracks, and let's keep the encyclopedia balanced. Encyclopedias aren't supposed to be "complete"; they are supposed to provide overviews and guide users to further information on a subject if they want to go beyond the standard level. Something like a Ciara fan wiki would be a fine place to have an article on every Ciara song, but a general-purpose encyclopedia is not. See Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Pop music issues and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music/Notability and Music Guidelines/Songs. Why write dozens of short articles on singles, with no chances of actual expansion short of padding and marketing-report material (chart positions), when they can be combined into one album article? I would also appreciate if you didn't accuse me of "trying to destroy" the And I article and ask others to "watch out" for it. Extraordinary Machine 00:42, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
- Merge The song isn't notable on it's own and there's room on the album page for songs from the album. Kerowyn 00:44, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- While we're at it, we could also merge the other singles from the album and create a new section in the "Goodies" article, something like "Notable singles from the album".Kerowyn 00:46, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
Although i'm not anytpe of administrator on this site i'd rather Ciara's singles not be mushed in with her album. Its just easier to go to each separate single page and read up on the song's composition, makeup, and meaning. It would be hard to do this for all artists though because i know for Mariah Carey's most recent album each single has a good sized page on it which covers the making of the video, meaning of the video, song, what they went through to make the song, etc etc etc. And i think it would be kinda strange to have some singles with a decent amount of info smashed in the same article as its corresponding album while other artists have their own separate single pages. Just my opinion. Thanx :D
- Well, according to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music/Notability and Music Guidelines/Songs unless there's a good reason for a seperate article, songs should be described under the album article. Granted, wiki-policy isn't wiki-law, but it's a good guideline. The "well, other artists do it" arguement isn't too valid because they aren't supposed to do either. It'd be nice if we could do a similar merge to most of the song article in Wikipedia, but the task is fairly staggering. Kerowyn 00:25, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- I've redirected the remaining song articles here. They consisted of little more than chart information and excessively detailed and poorly-written music video synopses (at 1, 2 Step, the reader learns "Ciara struts her stuff down the street"). Not every hit single needs a Wikipedia article, especially when the page for the album is as short as this one was. This is not because of a bias against Ciara or any other black musician; in fact I merged the articles for Lindsay Lohan songs to their albums for the same reasons. Extraordinary Machine 20:12, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Well, in 2004, the song "1, 2 Step" and it's video were big hits, making quite an impact and it basically launched Ciara's career. Although they may not have been written well, I think a good clean up would help. ScreamFlyDream 22:14, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
I agree with the one above, although "1,2 Step" was not as big of a chart topper like "Goodies" was, it still was a huge hit in the US and in other countries and it ranked #5 at the Billboard End-Of-The-Year charts of 2005 where Goodies could only hit #9, that further launched her career. 1,2 Step held the number 2 spot for about 7+ weeks ya kno lol The sinlge also went 3x platinum69.251.101.82 11:50, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Jak D69.251.101.82 11:50, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Lead changes
[edit]IP user 68.79.93.99 insists on making a drastic change to the lead's prose, and has not given substantial reason in his edit summaries to change it. Per WP:MOS, "Where more than one style is acceptable, editors should not change an article from one of those styles to another without a substantial reason. Revert-warring over optional styles is unacceptable. If discussion cannot determine which style to use in an article, defer to the style used by the first major contributor." The original version seems sufficient and was passed through GA. The IP user's revision seems to move around parts without much structure to the topics discussed. (Difference between revisions) Dan56 (talk) 14:56, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- Per Dan56/WP:MOS. There is no need to change the lead if the article passed its GA review. It can be if the article is expanded or updated but I see the IP was only changing a few words around. Oz talk 05:30, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
