I have a BSc in chemistry / physics (joint honours), and an MSc in Metallic and ceramic materials. The PhD is on the magnetic structure of thin layers of magnetic ceramics using a combination of statistical mechanics and quantum mechanics.

Having done all that, I'm not working in Computer Science, within a Distributed Systems group, specifically looking at Grid computation. One of these days, I'll get back to the condensed matter stuff.

When not doing stuff on a computer, I'm a fan of pen and paper RPG's, and an amatuer gemologist / lapidary.

I also can't edit my own stuff worth a damn. Well, not for about few days, anyway. Feel free to apply some spelling or grammar if you get to them before I do. You've got a 95% chance of being better than me at it anyway :)
