Stringfellows, at least in London, is not a nightclub it's a strip club - why are we not calling a spade a spade? Pete 07:59 9 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- I decided to be bold and revert to the more precise description - a quick Google shows that the Paris club is the same as the London one... Cabaret of Angels and all. Pete 08:26 9 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- I was ready to change the artcle because in my day Stringfellows WAS a nightclub. After a quick look on the web I've discovered that it is now essentially a strip club (6 nights of the week), after having spent some time operating as a strip club for a couple of nights of the week and a nightclub for the rest of the week. Mintguy
- Oh, thanks. I didn't know its history... but I did live essentially next door to it for most of last year and knew it wasn't a nightclub then. Sorry for sounding sharp in my original question. There's probably enough info out there to make this article into reasonable shape if I/anyone can be bothered with spending the time on Mr.Stringfellow! Pete 09:01 9 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- Back in the eighties Peter Stringfellow owned two London dance night clubs, Stringfellow's and The Hippodrome. The former was regarded as being frequented by 'naff' celebrities and was un-cool, while the latter wasn't, and was very cool. Both however were equally expensive.
- Other notable clubs around at the time were Heaven (mostly gay but not exclusively so), The Wag Club [1] , and the Hammersmith Palais. IIRC, I saw the Chiefs of Relief in 1988 at the Palais.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.145.115.33 (talk) 17:56, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Daughter
[edit]Does he not have a daughter named Karen? Apparently she leased a house in Gerrards Cross, Bucks, just before my family leased it and I had the "pleasure" of speaking to Peter on many occasions at 3 AM because he couldn't be bothered to learn her new number (this was in 1998). Jewish roots
[edit]http://www.jewishcare.org/events/business_group/young_business_group/
Jewish Care’s Young Business Group a leading UK forum for entrepreneurs and business leaders to explain their thinking and the factors of their success to you - an audience of 200 - 400 young people, who all aspire to help develop the great companies of tomorrow.
YBG has provided a platform for some of the UK’s best known entrepreneurs including Sir Richard Branson of Virgin, BBC’s Sir Michael Grade, Peter Stringfellow and Arsenal’s David Dein.
YBG has more than 1500 members who have helped to raise over £100,000 for Jewish Care since its inception in 1997. YBG hosts four receptions a year, with the audience consisting of young professionals aged between 25 and 35 mainly from legal, accounting and financial backgrounds.
No evidence of his being Jewish
[edit]Just because Peter Stringfellow supports the YBG is no evidence that he is Jewish. There are plenty of non-Jewish people who support Jewish charities and vice versa. Whether the person who keeps adding these spurious claims to wikipedia's articles about various celebrities is doing it out of pride or antisemitic malice, I'm not sure. But it's always the same person. He has a particular obsession in trying to assert that the supremely Christian Rupert Murdoch is Jewish as well. I imagine, sadly, that this suggests the latter (big Jewish Media Mogul etc).
Current girlfriend
[edit]I met Peter and his fiance at Sky TV on the 30 Jan '07 (he was talking about Super Casinos, me the Windows Vista consumer launch). She confirmed she was his fiance. So I have changed "current girlfriend, possibly fiance" to 'current fiance'. Does anybody know (with evidence) how many have been before her? signed Amars 02:55, 17 February 2007 (UTC) comment written: 4 February 2007 (UTC).
- Unless there is published evidence as to it, this goes against WP:OR Calvin (talk) 15:06, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Neutrality tag
[edit]I have just reverted edits which appeared to be rewriting the article in Stringfellow's favour, however reading the previous version I have reverted to I think it may be biased against him by giving undue weight to the negative points, hence the tag. Cassandra 73 (talk) 18:22, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- The article looks fair enough to me. Steve Dufour (talk) 23:22, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- It's been substantially edited since I added the tag, I'll remove it now. Cassandra 73 (talk) 07:24, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. It was me that edited it. I removed a lot of unreferenced stuff per BLP and editorialising per NPOV and trivia per WP:WEIGHT.--Scott Mac (Doc) 09:00, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

The Hurd?
[edit]'the Hurd' - don't you mean 'The Herd (UK band)'. Stuffed Cat (talk) 22:15, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Did he personally smoke cigarettes?
[edit]It says Stringfellow died of lung cancer. Did he himself smoke? Betathetapi454 (talk) 16:05, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Betathetapi454 According to his obituaries, no. The following text comes from the obituary published in the Guardian [2]:
- "Stringfellow was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2008, which he attributed as a lifelong non-smoker to 50 years spent in smoky nightclubs."
