What follows is a listing of links for Southwest (primarily Texas) Electronic music. Although this was generated by a group of people (EMDG), is not a tax-exempt organization (its barely an organization), we don't make any money doing this. Just love the music.

The Electronic Music Distribution Group

Simply put, we are trying to speak to a largely ignored (here in the States) music style and talent collective. This is not about Rave, club, or drug culture as those things are aren't related to good quality music. These are quality musicians and acts working hard at the cutting edge and too often being overlooked.

EMDG wants to help make it easier for people to find great local shows as well as international talent. Electronic music in the US continues to be a poor seller, ignored by both the mainstream save for the occasional top 40 hit, like FatBoy Slim or The Chemical Brothers, even as it influences top artists like Madonna and Radiohead. With the spectre cast over the concept of Raves and the lack of alcohol sales at events, Clear Channel and Ticketmaster seem disinterested in sponsoring or promoting electronic music events.

From these sites, you'll get tons of information but there are only four essential elements.

  • Name of Event - Fantastico or DJ ___ @ Location
  • Genre(s) or lack of genres - Downtempo House, Hardcore Drum and Bass, Goa Trance
  • Day & Date - Saturday, January 3rd at 10 P.M.
  • Cost / Where to get tickets - $12 + service charge @ the box office
  • Who's playing / why you should come (awards won, albums sold, etc.) DJ Fastguy won best mixing at SXSW -

Without those elements, skip the event - but that's all you need.

Additional nice stuff:

  • Related Links - other promotion companies, etc.
  • Restrictions - on age or dress
  • Parking - suggestions for where to park cheaply, how not to get towed
  • Visuals - lasers, puppeshow, very wild DJ, whatever
