[edit]Listen to the insistent thread in this text, consciously trivializing Greek myth:
- Apollo chased the nymph Daphne, daughter of Ladon, who had scorned him. His infatuation was caused by an arrow from Eros, who was jealous because Apollo had made fun of his archery skills. Eros also claimed to be irritated by Apollo's singing. Daphne prayed to the river god Peneus to help her and he changed her into a laurel tree, which became sacred to Apollo.
This is "NPOV" at Wikipedia and typical of the initial treatment of Greek myth, but it is far from a balanced, modern, sensitive, knowledgable reading. --Wetman 13:55, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I'm sure nobody minds me simply removing "sounds like penis and so has become the god associated with sex" from the page. - Anonymous
- I went through the comments specifically looking for a history of vandalism. There are some lowbrow gems. --Scottandrewhutchins (talk) 23:17, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]I think the second syllable should be eɪ based on the Greek ει in the original. The current pronuncation is unsourced. --Scottandrewhutchins (talk)
