Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Coblin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coblin was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was to delete the article.

"Coblin is an evil goblin who enjoys making and repairing shoes, created by Collin Li". Coblin "collin li" in Google returns a single result, a forum, making this vanity. Wyllium 04:35, 2004 Nov 13 (UTC)

• Delete: Vanity neologism and boring. Geogre 05:02, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• Delete: nothing in the post seems to make it notable. someone edited it to remove the vfd tag.

• Collin Li did not write that opening passage. How can this be vanity? I find Pythagoras boring, so let's delete that entry too. Since when did something being boring matter in an encyclopedia? Others will find it interesting! This entry is notable. There are folk out there who want to know what a Coblin is. Just as there are folk out there who want to know what a Pythagoras is. Just because you don't want to know about it, it doesn't mean others won't. I edited to remove the vfd tag because more content had been added and I felt it no longer applied. I didn't know that what I did was wrong. I've fixed it now. (edited for readability by Wyllium 06:41, 2004 Nov 13 (UTC))
• Delete, not enough search results (btw, it appears to also be a surname). — A.M. 08:07, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• You're basing the search results on the query "Coblin "collin li", why not just use "Coblin"? Is it because it comes back with 829 results... 829 is quite a bit. I bet there are heaps of Wikipedia articles which have topics that come up with less than 829 results. And what does it matter if it is also a surname? Pythagoras is a surname too. - Shrewd
• Those 830 results are mostly from the use of Coblin as a (fairly rare) surname, which is nothing to do with the topic of the article - that topic being "one non-notable guy's nickname". (A nickname I went by for several years, formed as a similar portmanteau, gets just under a million hits for the word. Doesn't make it even remotely notable. Delete Shimgray 14:53, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

• Keep-An encyclopedia is supposed to contain all the imformation available (trivial or not) in order to satisfy the human hunger for knowledge. The definition of Coblin is knowledge, IT SHALL NOT BE DELETED!!!! - Dr William (User:220.244.224.41)
• Delete: looks like nonsense to me. Edward 12:07, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• Keep-I have always wondered what a coblin was.. don't delete this (User:203.166.124.195)
• Delete...There is simply no reason to keep this drivel any longer. The only people who seem to think otherwise are the author and two unsigned messages, both from anonymous users. 力伟| 15:14, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• Delete. I marked a couple of anonymous votes above. This is just silly. -Aranel ("Sarah") 15:22, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• Delete. Non-notable drivel. jni 16:02, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

• Move. This should be moved the User:Coblin page. I did not make this page. coblin 00:40, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• Delete. Neologism; no evidence provided of real use. Vanity; a private joke or nickname as an encyclopedia article. Move to User:Coblin would be fine as long as the resulting redirect were then deleted. Dpbsmith (talk) 03:53, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• I've removed the page. --Shrewd 09:29, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)
